DAILY FANTASY FOOTBALL STRATEGY: DRAFTKINGS + FANDUEL

 

Scoring and Rules per site

 

Before you start building NFL DFS lineups, you must know the rules of the sites where you’re playing. 

 

All sites:

• Require you to roster 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB/WR/TE), and 1 DST.

 

• 1 point per 25 passing yards, 1 point per 10 yards rushing, 4 points per passing TD, and 6 points per rushing/receiving TD.

 

FanDuel specifically:

• just 0.5 points per reception

 

• a maximum of 4 players per team.

 

DraftKings specifically:

• 1 point per reception.

 

• an extra 3 points for 300 yards passing, an extra 3 points for 100 yards rushing, and an extra 3 points for 100 yards receiving.

 

•  a maximum of 7 players per team.

 

Cash Games Contest Selection (double ups, head to heads, 50/50)

 

• In these contest we want to focus on the floor of the players and focus on siding with ownership as you mostly want to do what the field is doing. Rostering as many popular players or highly owned players is the ideal goal for this contest. Maximizing the total amount of ownership for your lineup is ideal.

 

• Starting at the RB position we need to play guys that are projected for a high amount of volume. So guys like (Dalvin Cook, CMC, and Saquon Barkley) are typically good cash game running backs on a week to week basis. I recommend to pay up for running back as this is a spot that you don’t want to get wrong. There will be times that we have value at this position due to either the RB1 being ruled out before the start of the game or maybe a change in roles on the team between the two backs. I always recommend to play a running back as your flex options on both sites in cash games as their floors are typically higher than WRs and TEs.

 

• When picking your WRs always choose guys that see a lot of targets and are a key pieces in the offense. More targets can lead to more production which is always great. So look to play WRs and TEs who see consistent targets or are expected to see more targets as the result of a role change.

 

•  In cash games we do not have to stack our QB with one of our WRs as that strategy is mostly meant for tournaments. Its not something to avoid but its not a requirement either.

 

• When building your cash game lineups use all of your salary or at least leave no more than 300 dollars of your salary on both sites. We recommend to play defenses that are cheap unless you have the salary to pay up for a defense. With defense being the most variance position we can get away with getting a few points from a low priced defense instead of paying up for a high priced defense.

 

Tournament Strategy ( Single Entries, 3-5 Max, Leagues  and Large Field tournaments)

 

In these  contests, our main goal is 1st place. In order to do this stacking and game stacking is a great way to climb the leaderboards. By doing this you gain a lot of leverage on the field as the field is still not stacking enough.

• The most common game stack is a 2×1 which is a QB+WR/TE and an RB/WR/TE from the opposing team. I like to use this type of stack when its at least 5 games on the slate that has an over/under that is over 48+ points. I do this because this can indicate that the slate has a chance to be high scoring and we may need other pieces from other games.

 

• Next, 3×1 which is a QB+ two of his pass catchers (RB/WR/TE) and one RB/WR/TE from the opposing team. I target these stacks more when there is not as many games on the slate that are  projected for over 48 total points. Which indicates that the slate may possibly be a low scoring slate. This  minimizes the number of things needed to get right If a game explodes, you likely have enough to climb the leaderboards.

 

• 3×2 QB+ two of his pass catchers (RB/WR/TE) and two RB/WR/TE from the opposing team. Same as above as I want to target these stacks when the slate appears to be a low scoring one as I want to limit as much things that I need to get right as possible.

 

• Almost always, we want at least one WR as 1 of our pass-catchers in our QB stack. Also, we almost always want a WR from the opposing team. Don’t ignore RBs and TEs in game stacks, but WRs are preferred.

 

• Both sites have a Flex option but with the different scoring between the two sites I prefer to roster a RB as my Flex option on FanDuel  which would give me 3 RBs in my lineup, On Draftkings I prefer to roster a WR as my flex due to the full point for a reception. DO NOT roster a TE at your flex. It may be some weeks that you see a TE in the flex win a tournament but this is not a profitable decision as in the long term you are killing the upside of your lineups.

 

• Pricing is mostly efficient in NFL, usually don’t leave more than $700 on the table in any contest.

 

Mass Mutli Entry approach ( 20 max, 150 Max)

 

• Pick 3-4 game stacks and try to play both QBs from your game stacks. This should give you a total of 6-8 QBs  to choose from in you player pool. If you are making 20-25 lineups I would cut this pool down to 4-6 QBs.

 

• Usually there are not many viable RBs to choose from on a weekly basis so I recommend limiting you pool to 5-8 RBs.

 

•  WRs is where I would  Play 15-30 guys as this is where I recommend getting unique  with your lineups. In 20 entry max contest I would limit my pool to 10-20.

 

• At the TE position there are normally two ways to build and thats either to pay up for the elite options ( Kelce, Waller, Kittle.) or pay down for whichever value option that projects well. Majority of DFS players pay down for the value options so they can jam in the studs at other position. A easy way to be unique is to pay up for the guys listed above as they are priced up for a reason. Normally because of their volume and talent level. Limit your TEs to 6-8 and 4-6 in 20 max contest.

 

• Don’t play any offensive players against your DSTs.

 

• Limit yourself to two offensive players per team unless they’re in a game stack.
